Q. How many gallons of water are needed to make 1 inch of ice?

A. The normal rink is 85' x 200' which is equal to 17,000 square feet. This is a typical NHL size rink and would require 11,000 gallons of water to make 1" of ice. An olympic size rink is 100' x 200' and is 20,000 square feet so it would require 13,000 gallons of water to make 1" of ice.
